Spring is the perfect time to start getting back outside, partake in local sports, do some landscaping, prepare your garden and all the great things that come with the nice weather. That’s right, spring weather can bring unpredictable storms with it such as severe thunderstorms, lightning, flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes and more! Here are a few tips to help you prepare for storm season:

Before the Storm:

• Make sure you have an emergency supply kit and a sturdy communication plan.
• Secure your outdoor objects that could blow away or cause any extra damage to your home or even your neighbors.

During the Storm:

• As much as you can, avoid contact with plumbing. Plumbing and bathroom fixtures can conduct electricity.
• Unplug all of your appliances and electrical items. Power surges from lightning can cause serious damage.

After the Storm:

• To prevent putting yourself at risk, stay away from storm-damaged areas.
• Also, stay away from downed power lines and report them immediately.
